NDC, NPP BANNED AT KADE

Residents of Kade in the Kwaebibirem Municipality of the Eastern Region have banned the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) from campaigning in the area.  To this end, they have warned politicians to stay off the place until their only access road in the area is worked on before the 2020 polls or it is game over.  The deplorable condition of the only access route in the area and government’s apathy towards repairing it, they revealed, has led to accidents and needless deaths.  Angry youth of the town in an interview monitored by Mynewsgh.com, warned politicians to stay away from the community during campaigns next year unless roads are fixed. “When it rains, the road becomes muddy, making accessibility a challenge but also providing a greater leeway for armed bandits. They should fix it or no political party should come here, no road, no vote.”  “We want to tell our political leaders that if our problems are not solved, we are not

my bdae quote

The ability to recognize opportunities is a critical element of success, but it is only the beginning. An idea is valuable only if it can be put into practice — by you. Highly successful people know that there are many ways to capitalize on an opportunity. They evaluate and shape it to fit their capabilities, or they put together a team composed of people with the skills necessary to take advantage of it — whatever it takes to make it work. Seldom is there any single right answer in business. Often there are any number of right answers #SUPPORT ALFA

Ghana to combat covid19 with drones

ACCRA, GHANA - The COVID-19 pandemic has forced Ghana to improve its health care system. This week the government pledged to build dozens of new hospitals throughout the West African nation. New technologies are also coming into play. Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo, in a televised address to the nation Sunday night, said the virus had “exposed the deficiencies” of Ghana’s health care system, the result of years of underinvestment and neglect. He pledged to make a major investment in Ghana’s health care infrastructure and build 88 hospitals with 100 beds each throughout the nation. “We shall make these investments in our health care system not because it is going to be easy, but because it is self-evidently necessary to serve the needs of 21st-cen

Coronavirus in Ghana: Online funerals, face masks and elections without rallies

In our series of letters from African writers, journalist and former Ghana government minister Elizabeth Ohene writes about the new normal - from how to hold a socially distant election to attending online funerals. Since the outbreak of Covid-19, we have come to accept that our lives have been turned upside down. We have been learning to cope with things nobody had ever dreamt about - like not hugging or shaking hands. Social distancing, self-isolation and quarantine have all become terms of everyday use. Schools have been closed, and parents are discovering anew just how much food growing children eat. There are things we studiously avoid talking about; the mortuaries are full, not from coronavirus deaths (so far in Ghana, there have been 16 from the disease) but the ban on public gatherings, which means we cannot have normal funerals. Private burials are allowed but with no more than 25 people and that really is an unbearable experience for most Ghanaians. So, we are kee

Mozambique’s ambassador to China Maria Gustava praised the mutually beneficial aid between the two countries as a long-term symbol and a witness to brotherhood and friendship, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. “The brotherhood between China and Mozambique has been formed since the early days of Mozambique’s liberation struggle. The two sides have never stopped helping each other and shared weal and woe in the 45 years,” she said. She said when the outbreak hit China, Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi promptly sent a message of solidarity and consolation, and the Mozambican government and its people from all walks of life also responded to and participated in the initiatives to support China. While the pandemic hit Africa, China spared no effort to assist its African “brothers” who have suffered from a shortage of health resources. In addition to the assistance from the Chinese government, Huaxi Village in eastern China’s Jiangsu Province donated medical supplies. Many

FDA to arrest seller of fake nose marks

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned against the use of unapproved nose masks that had flooded markets across the country. Consequently, it has warned to arrest all persons caught selling such unapproved nose masks to serve as deterrent to others. Mr John Odai-Tettey, the Central Regional Director of the Authority, gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Friday. He indicated that using unapproved substances with the aim of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic could be detrimental to human health. Therefore, manufacturers of such products were to register their products as per Section 118 and 97 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), he said. Explaining some recommendations for homemade nose masks, Mr Odai-Tettey said fabric used for masks should be free from all chemicals adding that: “In any event that printed fabric is used, the layer of the fabric in direct contact with the face should be plain fabric that is free from chemicals.” To be effecti
